Our goal is to provide 5,000 face masks for Austin's homeless population. Resources are more difficult to come by and avenues to subsist are dwindling. With tens of thousands of Austinites losing their jobs, the situation is expected to get worse. 'Estimates predict a 40-45% increase in homelessness nationwide by the end of 2020.' (Study by Dr. Brendan O'Flaherty, Columbia University.)  "Since unhoused people are more at risk for COVID-19 than housed people, the increase in the size of the homeless population will likely prolong the health crisis." StreetSenseMedia.org Our goal is to raise $35,000 which will cover material and labor costs for 5,000 masks. By keeping production local, we will also help support local manufacturing businesses.  In addition, turnaround times will be faster enabling us to start distributing the masks in as little as two weeks.
